Happy Halloween everyone! I think Ollie's costume is the greatest! Nacho Libre!
I fished the north fork on Thursday. This river fished spectacularly in the spring but during summer the water was very warm and low (not good for fishing), and the rattlesnakes were enjoying the few months a year that their body temps rise enough to allow them to slither around in the tall grass, yikes!.. Anyway, for these reasons I didn't fish this river all summer but now that we've had multiple nights of below freezing temps, the snakes are asleep and the trout are becoming more active in the cooling water. But the water is still low and extremely clear so fish can see the slightest movement on the streambank. Staying low and hidden behind trees and brush is pretty much manditory for success. The only good thing about fishing such clear water is the amazing visual experience of watching a large trout slowly swim over and gulp your fly off the surface. It's easy to get so excited that you set the hook before the fish has had a chance to eat!
For any fisherman reading, the fish below were taken with a black foam beetle and a #20 baetis nymph dropped 12 inches below. The first took the baetis the second ate the beetle off the top.
Gunner hates rabbits more than anything else in the world. With one kill under his belt, every morning is a new opportunity for success. Last Saturday morning, he cornered a rabbit out by the garage. The bunny climbed up under the siding on the house. Ryan stumbled upon the incident and finished the job for Gunner with the pellet gun. Gunner was ecstatic to say the least!
Last Sunday morning we had our first snow here at the Ranch. It was beautiful and it made us anxious for winter.
We made one last trip to New Belgium before my mom headed out. That girl loves her LaFolie! For those of you who haven't been to the brewery, LaFolie is a aged sour brown beer that is only available here in Fort Collins. Every time Mojo comes to town we make several stops through New Beligium for tasters and she always shmooses her way into getting a couple extras.
Mojo came to town this week and we decided to tackle a huge project... the flower bed. Most of you know that Ryan & I love to garden. But we haven't had much luck with keeping things alive with the rabbits & our "ranch" soil. So we bought a truck load of good dirt and went to town! Cherie even came up for the day to help with the effort. We had a blast! And the finished project looks amazing!
